Tip of the Week
Many of us honed our golfing skills by playing on wide, forgiving parkland golf courses around the country. While a few may require planning and good shot making to shoot good scores, no golf course demands it more than St Francis Links! Here you can’t just hit your driver as hard as possible and know that even when you miss one you’ll find it in the adjacent fairway; here you can’t just take the 3-wood on your second shot on the par 5 and blaze it at the green - a game plan is required!!

Playing to your strengths as a golfer is so important on a golf course which demands accuracy at all times. This may mean taking out that 3-wood or hybrid on the more demanding driving holes and laying up with an iron to your favourite distance.

Remember: an accurate 3-wood is much better than that driver you hit in the bush every now and then. Use your driver only on the wider holes!! It may mean taking a club less and hitting it on the front of the green because you know if you go past the pin the putt coming back is a treacherous one. Maybe you are a great putter but a terrible chipper, then you should be trying to hit to the middle of every green, regardless of where the flag is. Think about it…

Try to work out a game plan that plays to your strengths before you tee it up next time and stick to it! Go hole for hole and write down your strategy on each, take your note pad on course with you!
Hole 8 is certainly one that requires a “Game Plan”

Ryan
