Tip of the Week
How to stop skying those tee shots

The main cause for the skied tee shot is the player having too much weight on his left side at impact. Remember, with the irons we want to produce a descending blow by keeping weight on our left side, but with the driver it is more a sweeping action that we require. To do so we need more weight on the right leg (left leg for lefties).

Your first 3 checks when diagnosing this problem would be:

1) To check that the ball position is not too far back in your stance
2) That your hands aren't too far forward (they should be slightly behind your driver's head)
3) That your clubface isn't closed.
4) At address, that your head is behind the ball.

When you are satisfied that the fundamentals are correct, start practice by hitting shots, keeping 60% of your weight on your right leg (left leg for lefties) throughout impact. Remember a big shoulder turn on the backswing is key as it will help you load up that right side!

This should shallow out your swing at impact, helping you to find the middle of the club again! If you would like to book a lesson with me, click here to do so!

Ryan
