Tip of the Week
With today’s enormous drivers, it has become easier to hit the ball a long way. If you slice the ball however, you’re probably not getting the type of distance you should be. Sliced balls travel much shorter and are much more affected by the wind as a result of the side spin imparted on the ball at impact.
A sliced shot is caused by two factors: a swing plane that’s too steep and a clubface that’s open at impact.

A great drill to correct this is to make a few practice swings with the driver about 2 feet above the ball (almost in a baseball type action). It’s important to keep the arms and hands soft to encourage your hands to turn over through the impact area and in so doing square the clubface. This drill will really help you feel the way the clubhead should move during the swing and by swinging above the ball you are practicing a better, shallower swing plane.

Try this drill a few times on the practice tee when you are slicing or even during a round; in no time you’ll see your tee shots drift less to the right and hold its line better.

Regards,
Ryan
