Autumn is in the air

Autumn is in the air. This past week we felt temperatures drop a little bit as our early mornings became a little bit nippier than 2-3 weeks ago. Going around the golf course, I find it difficult to believe that we are finding ourselves in one of the toughest drought periods for years. The fairways are green and lush, the tees are covered and healthy and the greens, even though they are about half a foot too slow maybe, are in good condition and are healthy.

We have been eradicating the kweek out of the greens the past couple of weeks and with a little bit of finer hand work left, we should be finishing off at the end of this week. We have been hit hard this year with a fungus called dollar spot on almost all the factors. Even other courses around the country have been suffering from this. It is a seasonal fungus and usually jumps up when you get very humid weather and warm days and cool evenings. We will be treating this fungus over the next couple of days.

We have also done a wall to wall application of insecticide on all the fairways and tees to eliminate some grubs and ants all over the place. It has also been the time of year where everything hatches and eggs are being laid. I am sure that this problem will also be sorted out within the next couple of days.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions and concerns.

All the best,
Andre Gerber
