Perfect fairways and greens

At last... Some decent rain! Last month I measured a whopping 50mm. Compared to the previous year’s 9mm and before that, 25mm for March, I am very pleased. It has given us the opportunity to fill our dams to the maximum capacity and it also creates a better visual effect of the 13th, 14th and 15th.

As you might have noticed, we are busy with a large scale kikuyu eradication project at the moment. This will be an ongoing project to ensure that we do our best to stay ahead. Unfortunately it is not ever pretty when you go out and kill off any area on a golf course, but please be assured that it is all part of the eradication plan.

The past rains we had also made a big difference in the health of the turf. We timed our fertilising perfectly and the result after the rains has been great. Also the fungus disease we had on the fairways has been cured, as I mentioned a week or two ago in the newsletter. I am now in the process of planning some winter projects. Maybe new tees here and there; maybe a bunker here and there. Watch this space for some more detail soon.

Hope you all had a great Easter Holiday and that you spent some quality time with family and friends. Let us now all hold thumbs for Ernie this weekend.

All the best,
Andre Gerber
