The dams are full and the estate has greened up
Winter has arrived here in St Francis Bay with some more well-needed rains. We have received a total of 90mm this month so far. The dams are full and the estate has greened up. With this in mind it gives us a chance to do some winter projects on the golf course.
We are currently busy raising the level of the senior tee at Hole 11 by 1 to 2 meters - the reason being that it is a semi-blind shot from the tee. So, by raising the tee, the golfers can see the entire fairway. The tee will be completed by the end of the week and ready for play soon. The next project will be raising the pro tee at Hole 6, as it is also a blind shot – resulting from the growth in the natural vegetation between the tee and the landing area. As it is the Pro Tee, the carry is significant. By raising the tee, it will offer a good test when used in the common westerly wind.
The lawn in front of the Pro Shop will be receiving a “facelift”. The current species of grass is Paspalum, and does not look attractive in the colder months. We will be stripping it and seeding with rye grass, and the end product will be the same as a tee on the golf course, providing an all year round healthy look.
The golf course, overall, is looking good, and we will make sure that it will only get better.
