Preparing for our annual spring treatment

" An interesting thing about golf is that no matter how badly you play, it is always possible to get worse."
"The great thing about this game is that the bad days are wonderful."

Through the past couple of weeks I have seen some great golf and I have seen some “not so great golf”. Above are two quotes from 2 very famous guys by the names of Jack Nicklaus and Bill Clinton. This almost sums it up for me as a superintendent. We can present a near perfect golf course every day, but if it is not your day to play well it is just one of those things.

I take my game…. Sometimes I hit the ball like a pro, but cannot score; sometimes I hit it like a beginner and score, but very seldom does the two get together. I guess that what I like to say is that we will continue to push the boundaries and limits of the golf course to ensure that your experience is matched by none. We will continue to soften up the course and look at different ideas to ensure that it is fair, but challenging, and without influencing the integrity of the course.

We are busy preparing for our annual spring treatment. I will be using a small tine this year to ensure a speedy recovery of the greens. The mini-tining we had earlier in the year has helped with this decision.

I trust that you all will have a great experience when you head out for your next round at the Links.

All the best,
Andre Gerber
