Busy at the links!
I must commend my assistants Jarryd, Danisile and Kevern for keeping all programs running smoothly and that they see to all the snags that I write down on their boards in the evenings. You guys are doing a great job and it shows on the golf course. I will try my best to get out and join you guys soon.
Last week we had a great conference at the club with about 45 golf course superintendents, club managers, head workshop managers and golf professionals joining us from the Southern- and Eastern Cape. Some of the Eastern Cape guys could not make it, but the day was very successful none the less.
We had great presentations by Jeff on the roll and relationship between the head golf directors and their superintendents and how important it is to communicate with each other. We were also very privileged to have Bruce Jamieson here from the European PGA. See below a little bit of background on him:
Bruce Jamieson has been involved within the Greenkeeping industry for over twenty five years during which time he has had the opportunity to work with, and advise some of the best known course in the world. Between 1989 and 1995 he held the position of Director of Agronomy for the PGA European Tour, responsible for organising and co-ordinating a greenkeeping support team and agronomy consultants to assist at 36 tournaments each year. He was also responsible for organising three bi-annual greenkeeping conferences for the PGA European Tour which involved planning the programme, finding sponsors and arranging accommodation and flights for all delegates and speakers. He advised and assisted in the preparation and presentation of two Ryder Cups at the Belfry in 1989 and 1993. Additionally, from 1993 he advised European Golf Management (joint venture Company between PGA European Tour and International Management Group) on budgets, staffing levels, and machinery and material requirements for the maintenance of their golf courses.
With the above said, it is quite an honour to have had him here and he taught us all present some valuable lessons.
Thank you to everybody involved for the support in making this a great day.
All the best,
Andre Gerber
