On your next outing to the Links

On your next outing to the Links you will find that we are now seriously looking at the playability of the course. I have played with a number of guests and members over the past couple of months and have made some extensive notes on where people loose their balls (and sence of humour).

We have had great support from the Nicklaus representatives to soften up the course as much as we can, but always keeping the integrity and design of each hole in mind. Mother Nature does not make it easy on all of us when we hit that perfect shot and you see it carried 50 meters off line by the wind into an unplayable area. We will be doing a “course clean up” exercise the next couple of weeks to try and give you more generous landing- and second shot landing areas.

We also decided to remove almost all gravel walkways at the tees and replace it with cynodon (kweek) sods. We will then be widening the walking area to each tee box to eliminate any heavily concentrated traffic over one area. I am sure that this more natural look will be better suited to our environment.

Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have had problems around the course in certain areas – and who knows; maybe next time you hit your ball there you might find it in a nice piece of closely mown rough instead of bush….

Last week I enlightened you with the art of mowing fairways. This week I came across an interesting article regarding greens maintenance. This is a brief description of some of the most important aspects. To read this, please click here.

All the best,
