The teams behind the scenes

This week I want to talk about our staff around the estate. There is so much that goes into the whole operation and behind the scenes to ensure that the estate and golf course is running smoothly and at the highest possible level.

The entire team is divided into smaller teams that each has got its own area of responsibility. Each guy has got a specific primary and secondary task each day and they are closely supervised by the supervisors and my assistants. I am very grateful for all the efforts these guys put into their daily routine and the dedication that they all show. As they say “the captain of a ship is only as good as his crew members” and I always compliment the guys on job well done.

Strict programs have been put in place for the golf course, estate maintenance and security. See below just a couple of things that the guys do on a daily and/or weekly basis:

- Road verge maintenance
- Fertilisation of verges
- Paving maintenance (the paving at the halfway house was done within the previous budget)
- Streetlight Maintenance
- Alien Eradication on the golf course, estate and Sand River trail
- Kikuyu eradication
- Formal garden Maintenance
- Home owner garden and drive way maintenance
- Garbage collection
- Weekly water readings
- Building repairs and painting
- Fire hydrant maintenance
- Security fence maintenance, mowing and clearing of bush
- Signage Maintenance and additional information signs being put up
- Maintenance of the communal gardens in town
- Assisting the local school with maintenance and mowing of their sport field

It is a well oiled machine at the moment with all staff members now fully aware of what is expected from them on a daily basis. Training of staff on all different aspects is always ongoing. We have 4 fully trained fire fighting crews and we have already assisted the community in a couple of fires. We are currently maintaining the sport field of Sea Vista School at no cost. We are in the process of finalising a new security fence and gate for the school that will ensure better safety for them as well as for all of our home owners. The communal garden in town is cleaned once a month by the estate maintenance crew and we are always looking for what we can do extra for the town.
The golf course is running smoothly and each guy knows exactly what is expected from him. Well done to Thinus in the workshop that never stops to amaze me even after ten years of working together. Kevern, Jarryd and Danisile have proven that they are 3 of our biggest assets and I will back them up in any decisions that they might have to make in the future. Below you can see a couple of examples of what we do and some training that has taken place;

We thought Thinus was just a workshop manager… We made sure that Thinus built us a Braai area at the workshop.

Let’s see if the boys learned anything

Well done to all of you on the entire team. There is so much that the guys do that it will take up all the space in the newsletter if I must list it all. I always say that there are never any problems too big to solve, but rather new challenges to overcome. Come guys – let us see what new challenges there is out there and let us not stand back to overcome them.
