Fairway Fireworks!

It was Monty’s Magnificent Monday… Just!
Colin Montgomery was everywhere every day. If it was a key match, he was there; and if he wasn’t, Darren Clarke was holding up Lee Westwood (he didn’t need much help), Sergio was all over the place pumping up the crowd and the European Crowd was the 13th man. In the end, they needed it all as the class of the American side came through in the singles. I am not going to replay it again – if you missed the coverage or the replays – SHAME on you! It was EPIC! That’s all I can say. The number of great shots that were played under that kind of pressure was simply amazing… I was rooting for America (I always root for America in the Ryder Cup – The President’s Cup gets tricky with South Africans playing). But this time, I must simply congratulate all who played, the spirit they played the game with and the great golf they provided! WOW! Say no more!!!

The traditional Champagne bath!

A postcard for Wales!

Don’t you need sun to have a rainbow?

Perfect attire!

Watch the space – Ricky Fowler
birdied the last 3 to tie his
singles – It won’t be his last
Ryder or Prez Cup!

Class Acts – Graeme McDowell
accepts the handshake that handed the Cup
to Europe! Don’t blame Hunter
– he did his share and more.

Links Cup – closer than it looked – the spirit was fantastic! Peter Bridges played in his first Links Cup and played like his Club Champion wife, Helen, winning 3 points from three matches! By the way, so did she!

I never knew so many of our members hailed from Ireland. I guess they all wanted to have the same roots as Graeme McD and Rory McIlroy. Maybe they all got green cards in an Irish sweepstakes? Whatever the reason, their addition to the European side combined with the known abilities of recent record-setting, Sandy Cunningham and her partner, Helen, the real Irishman Peter McHugh and the nervous-looking, yet unbeatable, Allan Mudamaa made for an uphill struggle for the TRUE South Africans. As the South African (by choice) Captain, I had to dig deep to strengthen the low handicap section of our team to offset the Scott Keevy’s, Anton Prinsloo’s and Martin King’s. Ryan Dodds, Justin Roux and Kevern (the Praying Mantis) Burger came in and played well - Kevern undefeated. South Africans Ron Bartram, Dave Webber and Keith Simpson all finished without a defeat. However, we couldn’t overcome the likes of the 3 and 0, Bridge’s and Cunningham’s or the undefeated Peter Mc, Scott K and Allan M. However, everyone who played enjoyed the matches and the event, they all strengthened friendships and forged new ones and in the end, it was another victory for St Francis Links and the members who participated! Next year we will feature the President’s Cup as our sister to the Links CUP.

European Captain, Andre, with his ace, Allan and their GOLD!
Thanks Colin! Member, Colin Higgins provided the medals for the LINKS Cup… again! And… they are really cool! Thanks, Pards. No one has the LINKS Cup and no one has our Medals!

Regards,
Jeff
