Young Guns
Charl and Louis came back with 66 and 67 on Sunday to finish T-9 and Ozzie Jason Day, played the last 45 holes bogey-free to finish 2nd again...after neatly winning the Masters in April.

| Rory McIlroy knows how to take the lead in a major… Now, after learning how to accept defeat, he knows how to WIN! This past weekend he re-wrote the record books by showing the golfing world how to drive, approach, chip, pitch and putt to victory in the US Open. He didn’t have to show us how to recover, because he was seldom in trouble. Rory McIlroy lead a charge mostly comprised of young guns, that resulted in some of the most incredible golf you could ever want to watch. While some had their moments, he carried the entire event. Even on the last day, with 25 000 enthusiastic spectators surrounding the 10th tee, green, clubhouse area and surrounds, he completely forgot the tee shot that started the collapse in the Masters. This time, on the 10th tee, he laced a six iron to inches from the hole. |

The birdie that followed and solid play home meant that this kid from Northern Ireland (Norn Iron) would be the 111th champion! What calm and class…
Young Nerves?
After what was described as the worst collapse since Norman to Faldo a few years before, the back nine at Masters could have been the end – not the beginning for the gifted Rory. A lesser man would not have benefited from the advice that followed from Nicklaus, Norman and others. A lesser man would not have recovered and ever won again – let alone dominate. Rory McIlroy is NOT a lesser man. He looked possessed – determined – confident – unflappable and most of all, happy to be there again.

The rains may have helped the scoring, the set-up may have been a little softer, the heat wave that preceded the event may have eased the rough – but to win by two par 4s (8 shots)… do me a favour. He shot 69, two under, on the final round playing conservatively! Nervous? If so, he covered it all up with good shot choices, better shot-making and a putting “touch” better than an Italian pick-pocket! What can we learn… I have said it before – when you play any shot, at any level of playing ability, the success will come more often when you trust what you are doing and are committed to making a positive attempt. He never backed off, but he did no when to “go” and when to GO! |

Judging from the continuous roars from the crowds at Congressional, Rory will be “at home” in America soon – if he wants it!
