Guy Wilson recently competed at Royal Cape and Mowbray in the Senior Amateur Championships. His 38-39=77pts was good enough to tie for the B Division title (counted out by some “old” guy as age was the tie-breaker). His score was only 2 off the overall best! On a completely different subject… Guy is also a little bit of a Province and Newlands fan – he hasn’t missed a home test match in 51 years… WOW! Farewell To Great Partner! Margie Dolgoy has resigned and left St Francis Bay Golf Club to take on a new challenge in Knysna. Some of the members who played on the day joined me in presenting her with a cool Mizuno golf bag to say thanks! After 30 years in the golf business, she leaves the business with many great successes behind her! |

Service With A Smile! When I first came to South Africa, I must say that the Wimpy wasn’t my first choice for a burger… I never cottoned on to the ‘pink’ tomato sauce and soggy chips. However, after 10 or 15 years, they changed the pink to red and accepted my request for crispy chips! Now I must give them ‘hats off’ for something else. The last three early morning flights I was on out of PE, all provided enough extra time after check-in for a little bacon cheeseburger – no salad, just mayo and crispy chips. Forget the time (±7h30) and remember the service. On all three occasions, I had the most remarkable waitresses serve me. It was refreshing and rewarding to see South African service providers shine at a time when service is needed more than ever! Last Sunday, on Mother’s Day, my girl started by asking if I had remembered to call MY MOM, and went on from there. Ah, good service and a South African smile can be soooo good! |
