National Day in Norway!
| National Day Dave and Jenny Hart recently travelled to Norway to see our overseas members, the Stiansens! With all the hype around the World Cup and the general feeling of patriotism, I would like to share a incredible experience Jenny and I had when we visited the Stiansens (Both Svein-Erik and Ingvild are members of our club) in Norway. Their National Day is on 17 May and the celebrations are all about their country, their flag and just being Norwegian. What made it special to me was that I did not see a single politician addressing anyone. Most of the folks were in their National Costumes which made for a very colourful display. During the morning and afternoon the main focus was on the school children parading. In Oslo itself, some 60 000 children marched passed the King before moving on through the town. In the evening, celebrating with family and friends over a fine dinner was the order of the day. Let’s hope when the World Cup is over that we, as South Africans, can display this loyalty and unity. |
